Christian McClean made his Rovers league debut on this day in 1988 in a 1-0 win against Chesterfield at Twerton Park.

Andy Gurney’s league debut for Rovers came on this day in 1994 in a 2-0 away defeat at Reading.

APRIL 4TH

On this day in 1964 Roger Frude made his Rovers league debut in a 1-0 home defeat against Coventry City.

Malcolm John made the first of five league appearances for Rovers on this day in 1972 in a 2-0 defeat against Notts County at Eastville.

Goalkeeper Paul Bradshaw came out of retirement to help Rovers when Tim Carter was injured and made the first of his five appearances for the club on this day in 1987 when we lost 1-0 to Bury at Gigg Lane.

APRIL 5TH

Forty years ago, on this day in 1980, Micky Barrett made his Rovers league debut in a 2-0 away defeat against Swansea City.

Jamie Clapham, on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, made the first of his five league appearances for Rovers on this day in 1997, in a 1-0 defeat against Stockport County at Edgeley Park.

Former Rovers forward Michael Tippett died on this day in 2003.

Former Rovers forward Wynffrwd Morgan, who made two league appearances for the club in 1946, died on this day in 2006.

Former Rovers defender Dave Palmer was born on this day in 1961.

Ted Parsons made his Rovers league debut on this day in 1950, in a 1-0 home win against Exeter City.

Goalkeeper Andy Beasley made his only league appearance for Rovers on this day in 1993 in a 2-1 home defeat against Portsmouth.

Ken Powell made his Bristol Rovers league debut on this day in 1952 in a 2-1 defeat against Colchester United at Eastville.

Goalkeeper Bob Anderson’s Rovers league debut came on this day in 1953 in a 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Watford.

Neil Slatter made his Rovers league debut on this day in 1981, in a 1-1 draw against Shrewsbury Town at Eastville.

Former Rovers defender Leslie Edwards was born on this day in 1924.

On this day in 1954 Ian Muir made his Rovers league debut, in an away game against Hull City which we lost 4-1.

Richard Iles made his only Rovers league appearance on this day in 1986 in a 1-0 win against Blackpool at Eastville.

APRIL 13TH

Today we were due to play Burton Albion at the Memorial Stadium but, with the season suspended that game, of course, won’t be going ahead.

Our last three results on this day have seen a defeat, a draw and a win. On this day in 2010 we suffered a 5-1 home defeat against Southampton. Jeff Hughes scored our goal, from the penalty spot, that day.

There was a goalless draw down at Southend on this day in 2013 but last year saw a dramatic 3-2 home win against Bradford City. Johnson Clarke-Harris, who had already scored once, hit a 93rd minute winner after Bradford had equalised three minutes earlier. Ollie Clarke also scored for us that day.

Former Rovers defender Herbert Richard Winter-Alsop was born on this day in 1920.

On this day in 2018 Mo Baghdadi made his Rovers league debut in a 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers at the Memorial Stadium.

Former Rovers defender Wilfred Victor Smith died on this day in 1968.

Bill Roost made his Rovers debut on this day in 1949 and scored twice in a 4-1 home win against Reading.

Former Rovers forward Douglas Baldie was born on this day in 1921.

On this day in 1954 Ray Chandler made his Rovers debut in a 1-0 win against Oldham Athletic at Eastville.

Dai Ward made his Rovers debut on this day in 1955 in a 2-1 home win against Nottingham Forest.

Keith Brown made his first league appearance for Rovers on this day in 1979 in a 3-0 away defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Ellis Harrison and Lamar Powell made their Rovers debuts on this day in 2011, in a 1-0 defeat against Southampton at St Mary’s

APRIL 17TH

Happy Birthday to the following Rovers players born on this day; Marco Carota (1970), Danny Senda (1981) and Michael Leary (1983).

Marco never appeared in a league match but went on as a substitute for Gerry Francis against Bristol City in a Gloucester Cup Final in 1988 and scored our goal in a 2-1 defeat. He later spent two years as Rovers kit manager. Now runs his own hairdressing business.

Danny signed for Rovers in February 2011 having previously played for Wycombe Wanderers, Millwall and Torquay United. He is currently Barnet’s first team coach.

Michael arrived at BS7 on loan from Luton Town in the summer of 2005 and appeared in 13 Gas league games. He became a personal trainer and as far as I’m aware, he is no longer involved in the game.

Bill Dodgin who played for Rovers in 1936/37 and was later coach, manager and chief scout for the club, was born on this day in 1909.

Happy Birthday to former Rovers striker Alan Warboys, born on this day in 1949.

Happy Birthday, also, to former Rovers goalkeeper Conrad Logan, born on this day in 1986.

Former Rovers defender Lindsay Parsons made his league debut for Rovers on this day in 1964 in a 4-0 win against Notts County at Eastville.

On this day in 1952 Stanley Green made his only league appearance for Rovers in a 4-2 defeat against Torquay United at Plainmoor.

Former Rovers defender Frank Allcock made his Rovers league debut on this day in 1954 in a goalless draw against Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park.

On this day in 1961 two players, Arthur Hall and Roy James, made their Rovers league debuts in a 3-0 defeat against Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

Former Rovers striker David Whyte, who made four substitute league appearances for the club, was born on this day in 1971.

On this day in 2002 Neil Arndale and Ryan Clarke made their Rovers league debuts in a 2-1 defeat against Rochdale at Spotland.

Legendary former Rovers striker Alfie Biggs died on this day in 2012.

Former Rovers goalkeeper Bert Hoyle was born on this day in 1920.

Another former Rovers goalkeeper, Malcolm Dalrymple, made his Rovers league debut on this day in 1972 in a 3-1 win against Wrexham at Eastville.

Paul Nixon’s league debut for Rovers came on this day in 1989 in a 1-1 draw against Northampton Town at Twerton Park.

Ted Purdon, who scored once in four league games for Rovers, died on this day in 2007.
